A Spanish woman born in a small town near Madrid, Elena is an only child. Because of that and the fact that her parents suffered several miscarriages before having her, she grow up very overprotected and is now an insecure and fearful woman. She always wanted to be a writer but feared she wouldn't get a job or earn money. She studied administration and a Master's degree in Advertising where she met her husband Armando. Elena is a sociable person but, being accustomed to living in a village, gives too much importance to what people think of her. She had never lived outside of Spain until now and living in Mexico makes her feel afraid. She finds the city huge and dangerous.

Armando is Elena's husband and was born in Mexico City. An only child from a rich family, he has always been opportunistic and fond of parties, women and alcohol. However, the death of his parents in a car accident changes his life and he decides to do a Masters in Madrid to escape. This is where he meets Elena who falls in love with him and they decide to marry. He is a handsome, outgoing, confident and idealistic man. He always lived well: his parents were upper middle class and educated at the best schools in the Mexican capital.

Carlos is the best friend of Armando who he has known for many years. They went to school together and studied at the same university. Carlos is friendly, outgoing and a very good people man.

Sandra is the wife of Carlos. She is a very nice, friendly and outgoing woman. She gets along well with Carlos's friends and has known them ever since her engagement to Carlos many years ago.

Rebeca is Armando's ex-girlfriend, whom he has known since high school like Carlos. She is a daddy's girl, very posh and is two-faced. She is bitter because all her friends have a partner but she doesn't; she envies Elena and always looks for an opportunity to make a fool of her.

Pato is a young, 20 years old, man who works in the street for tips as a windscreen-cleaner and parking assistant. He is a good person, trying to earn money to send home to his mother and siblings who live in the province.
